Who Doesn’t Love a Free Art Marketing Workshop?
When you decide to improve your art business, you will often come across many free resources such as webinars and other tools to help you along. Sometimes it can be challenging to know which free webinars, masterclasses, and workshops to take and which to pass up. Yet, free invitations sound so enticing! It’s a common dilemma because there are SO many events available online.
Use Your Time Wisely
You have to be careful, though. There was a time when it seemed I worked more on attending free webinars and workshops than working on my business. Even though they are free, your time isn’t, so if you spend a lot of time on things you aren’t using, it’s essentially throwing money away. I’ve even paid for many courses and training that I did not use to their fullest.
While I still pay for training and development from time to time, the programs that I pay for are very strategic, and I use them for specific goals I’m working on at the moment. So here are some recommendations for prioritizing the time you spend learning how to improve your art marketing.
Prioritize Your Learning
Know your goals and understand how to reach them.
If a program isn’t in line with your plan, skip it. For example, let’s say a future goal is to create an online course, but you’re currently working on growing your client base. So skip those events about creating online courses and find one that helps you work on building an audience or mailing list.
Choose a format that best works for you.
Watching videos and attending events are much more time-consuming than reading. If you can read a PDF instead of watching a video, do so. If you’re an auditory learner and the subject lends itself to it, consider listening to something while you work in the studio.
Spend your time learning about things you need to do now.
If you may need something in a year, skip it for now. For every decision about attending an event, ask, “Will this get me closer to my goals — the ones I’m working on right now?”
There is a lot to be gained from the many resources out there to help you sell your art and grow your business. With a little discernment and strategy, you can use them to effectively help move your business to the next level.
